Inspired by Form both Physical and Spiritual

Hello! I am Sheridan Scifres (b. 1997, Laguna Hills, CA). I received my BFA in Fine Arts at Chapman University in 2019. I am a multimedia artist currently exploring the beauty of form in nature and the language of landscape through traditional ceramics. Inspired by both the storytelling and distinctive shapes of Greek pottery/ Egyptian pottery and the ceremonial and ritualistic purposes of Pueblo pottery; I craft vessels for both ritual and form.

My artistic practice is grounded in meditation and prayer. I do my best to work from a state of deep meditation so that I may become a messenger of the energies. Allowing God, the Universe, Spirit (whatever you call it) to work through me, allowing the energy to take shape through and with the clay.

Because I am working with the Earth, I try to meet it with loving awareness. Exploring shape and form through energetics; each piece and collection I design I shape to mirror both nature and esoteric energies. My sculptures are simply moments of energy, displayed and captured. For this reason, I am always a student; studying and observing, learning about new subjects and how I can capture them and allow their energy to work through me onto the clay. I often work with crystal companions, sometimes adorning my pieces, with them other times just as inspiration. Connecting to their deep and ancient wisdom, allows me to connect to the voice of the Earth, a soft song that runs through us all, and echoes into our being.
